Farmborough is a part of Wollongong City Council, governed and ruled by the council. It is a medium high wealth suburb situated in the foothills of Mount Kembla. Around 4,500 people live in the suburb (Census 2011). The suburb is located 92 kilometres from Sydney Central Business District and 10 kilometres from Wollongong City. The surrounding suburbs are Kembla Heights, Mount Kembla, Cordeaux Heights, Kembla Grange, Unanderra and Kembla Grange.
Subdivisions in the last 10–15 years have seen the establishment of more substantial residences. Many of the homes in Farmborough Heights enjoy the elevated location and views of both the sea and mountains.

Getting Around
Bus Route 35 runs through the suburb all day. The main access road to the suburb is Farmborough Road. However, Waples Road and Panorama Drive also provide major access to the suburb. The Princes Highway connects the suburb to all other suburbs and cities.
